This writeup explains how to set up the Subscriptions to which the Individual-Thread email-notification options are connected. For more detailed information about how the email-notifications work, see this thread

There are TWO METHODS for Subscribing: Room Mass-Subscriptions, and Individual-Thread Notify settings. I'll think that the one that most people will want to use is probably the Mass-Subscription method, so we'll start with that.

Room Mass-Subscriptions are defined on the My Settings panel. The first graphic shows the link to click on. You're probably familiar with panel already, so I'll focus on the parts that bear on Subscriptions. First, let's look at the very bottom left ... the second graphic shows the dropdown box that lets you pick one of two notification methods. This choice will be used for all subscribed Rooms - it defaults to Thread-Prompt, since that is the least intrusive. You can change it later any time you want. Or, you can fine-tune it, so that a few Threads in a Mass-Sub'd Room act differently ... that's described in the next post.

The only other thing you need to do is set up your Room choices. Click on the box (the left one in the third graphic) that is over on the right bottom side of the panel, to Mass-Subscribe. It will open up a VERY LONG panel with checkboxes for every room in the forum that you have access to. The fourth graphic illustrates the top and bottom portions of one such list. You might see a different list ... the Forum is dynamic and Rooms will be added or renamed or occasionally deleted. Also, not all people have access to every Room. The list shown is for an Associate TradeTight Member who has not yet purchased any of the Video Training series, and is also not a member of the Nirvana Club, nor is a participant in any Special Projects. If your situation is different, you might see a longer (or shorter) list.

So ... what Rooms should you choose? Some of us (guess who) have EVERY box checked ... which means that activity in ANY accessible Thread will produce an appropriate email notice right away. This lets us have the opportunity to respond quickly ... to effectively carry on a "long distance conversation" ... without having to keep the Forum page open and continually refreshing it. However, most people will not want to "stay tuned" to everything in the Forum. This list allows you to pick and choose the topics that you are most interested in ... check the boxes for those Rooms and you're on your way!

When you get done, click "Submit" at the bottom of the list - otherwise your changes won't take effect. You'll be returned to the My Settings panel ... if you changed the type of Email Notification you wanted (or made any other changes to the panel), you need to also click "Submit" at the bottom of that panel, for those changes to be registered.

That's it!

Now, let's take a look at how you can control your Individual-Email Notifications on a Thread-by-Thread basis (be sure to read the prior post, first). This works in concert with the Mass Subscriptions ... but the Individual-Notification settings "rule" if there is a conflict.

The method is simple. First, View the Thread for which you would like to alter the Notifications settings. In the top right, click the Notify button (first graphic). The second graphic shows the panel that pops up, where you make your selection. Then, press Submit, and you're done!

The panel has four choices ... the FOURTH choice is the DEFAULT. It means simply that this Thread will "follow the crowd" for this Room ... it will react to posts according to how the Room Mass Subscription (see post above) is set.

The OTHER THREE choices will OVERRIDE this Thread's Room's Mass-Subscription setting, and will set the Thread to respond with either of the two immediate-email options, or will force this Thread NOT to create emails (Deactivate), even if its Room is Mass-Subscribed.

Once you press Submit, this new choice takes over. You can change it any time you want. If you subsequently change the Room subscription, it will NOT change the setting on this Thread. However - note this - if the Thread is set to the default fourth option, then any change you make to this Thread's Room Mass-Subscription will affect this Thread.

It's all under YOUR control!

OK, that's pretty much all you need to know. However, after some time passes, and you've messed around Notification settings for a bunch of individual Threads ... you might just want to have a look-see at which ones are currently set ... or you might want a quick way to Unsubscribe from several of them, without having to actually visit each thread. There's a nifty way to do this.

As described in the first post, open your My Settings Panel, and this time press the big square button on the bottom right that says Unsubscribe (first graphic). It will open up a panel that lists all the Threads which you currently have
