Owner/Admin Posts: 3925 Location: USA: GA, Lawrenceville | Individual-Thread Coverage There are two options here, and neither one will be active until and unless you choose to subscribe to a Room or a specific Thread. The "how-to" for subscribing is provided elsewhere ... the choices below define how you want subscriptions to be acted upon. First individual-thread choice: one "New-Post" email for every post, in a thread to which you are subscribed. This is the most-"busy", and most timely option, described above, like Nirvana does. Ours is BETTER though, since we INCLUDE THE TEXT OF THE POST in the email ... you don't have to jump to the Forum to see what it said. And, if you do jump to the Forum to view graphics or get attachments, the link included in the email takes you DIRECTLY to that post ... not just to the top of the thread. The first graphic below illustrates an "Every-Post" email ... Second individual-thread choice: one "Thread-Prompt" email is sent out when a new post appears in a thread that you've subscribed to, BUT you do NOT get any MORE emails for subsequent posts to that thread, UNTIL you have visited the thread. So, if a thread is very active and there are 20 posts in one day on it, you get ONE email for the first post, and no more until after you have actually visited the thread again, at which time the "prompt flag" is reset. The cool thing is that the link in the email takes you to the FIRST of the posts that you have not yet seen ... you just read and scroll from there to "catch up". This option "auto-resets" once a week ... so, if a notification came in on a Tuesday, and you want to catch up on the weekends, you can wait till Sat to do so. BUT, when the next Tue rolls around, you'll get a single "reminder" email, pointing to the original as-yet-unvisited post ... and the "reminder" email will also tell you how many posts have occured SINCE then. This option is really cool ... not available afaik on any other forums. You can target not only WHAT topics you are interested in, but also WHEN you want to review them, without getting your email box swamped. Max number of emails you get per week, if you do your catch-up reviews once a week, is one for each thread you have subscribed to ... and that, only if there has been activity on it. As Ed would say ... "way cool" ! Thread-Prompt is the default for Mass Subscriptions, since it is the most "efficient" and least-obtrusive ... that's what I recommend you start with. One more note about TP emails ... the Forum engine is smart enough to realize that you don't want to get a TP about your OWN posts ... that is, if you are subscribed to a Thread, and post a reply in it ... you don't need to be prompted about your own post! However, if you select New-Post mode, you will get an email for every post in subscribed Threads, even the ones that you create. The second graphic below illustrates the initial "Thread-Prompt" email, and the third graphic shows a "Thread-Minder" email that only appears, a week later, if you never subsequently visited the Thread that you were originally Prompted about. This reminder-email will be repeated one additional week as a "Final-Minder" (fourth graphic below) if you do visit the thread, or unsubscribe to it via the link at the bottom of the email. After four weeks have passed (three notifications), if you have not visited the thread, the suspension of notifications for future posts will be released, so subsequent posts after that time can restart the process. Owner/Admin Posts: 3925 Location: USA: GA, Lawrenceville | Full-Forum Coverage Again, you have two options available to you ... you must choose one or the other, or both (in the User Settings screen). Each of these choices produces only ONE email per day, covering the entire Forum. If there is no related activity on the forum for that day, no email is sent. So, even if you pick BOTH options (not a bad idea), your inbox will NOT be swamped! First full-forum choice: one "Daily-Digest" email per day that contains LINKS to the first post made that day on every thread that had any posts that day ... plus a count of how many posts occured since that first one, during the day. The Digest contains info about ALL rooms in the forum which you are authorized to access. It does not include the text of the posts ... just the Section>Room>Thread ID and the link. So, you get only one email per day, but it reports all areas of activity. This is sort of like the Yahoo daily-digest (Nirvana does not offer it), but better, since it only gives one link for each thread, and takes you straight to the earliest post of the day in that thread. Second full-forum choice: one "Key-Points" email per day will be sent out which contains any postings by the forum Administrator (me), or postings by any section/room Moderators (many general-access forum Rooms and each Special Project Room will have one or more Moderators assigned). These posts will appear in the Key Points summary, regardless of your "subscriptions" settings ... but will only be present IF the Admin/Mod was the one who ORIGINATED that thread. So, it will NOT appear for Admin/Mod replies to threads that OTHER people created ... which will be by far most of the threads on the Forum. The idea is that each section or room might have a "main theme" thread, probably locked, that the Admin/Mod uses to communicate key info, or to consolidate links, etc to particularly useful new info that has appeared. This default will be a cross between the Daily Digest and the Every Post options ... it will cover multiple threads, like DD does, but will also include the text of those postings, like Every Post does. I'm relatively sure that there will not be very many posts that fit this set of rules, and since there is (at most) only one such email per day ... some days no posts will qualify for it ... this will be the "DEFAULT" that everyone gets.
