** If you don't own MTVpowr, read the next "Overview" post and view the linked Introductory Video, to get a quick understanding of its scope and power

** After viewing the Video, if you want really in-depth info, download the Help-Manual PDF attached to that Overview post. You can pause the Video as often as you'd like and take "snapshots", to relate the PDF's words to what appears on the screens.

** To learn about Purchase (& Rental) pricing, new features in the recent-Release, optional Upgrades, and associated TradeTight Tools that use MTV, read the post after that.

** For general information about Installation, Nomenclature, and how License-Keys are implemented, read the post after that.

** To download the *most recent* release of MTVpowr, go to the *final* post of the thread (you can review other intermediate posts to see how things have progressed, if you'd like).

Although any registered Participant can download any of these files, please note that they WILL NOT RUN on your machine unless you have purchased a License for that routine.

+ = + = + = + = + = + = + = + = MTVpowr General Overview = + = + = + = + = + = + = + = +

MTVpowr is the "wise big brother" in the MTV-indicator family, which also includes MTVedge and MTVflex. "Little-brother" Edge is simpler ... only two inputs and 15 MTV Patterns, while "middle-brother" Flex provides eight inputs and 125 Patterns in Flex. The first five and final three inputs of Powr are similar to Flex, but Powr adds ten more "tuning" inputs, expanding user-selection to 2.2 million distinct Patterns. All three use the same MTV "engine" to produce the same answers. Both Flex and Power have two inputs that focus the calc's on a particular historical "window" of bars, giving significant improvements to calc-speed, and both provide an input which can specify an Alternate-Symbol as the focus of the run ... extremely useful for multi-tier Filter-Block and Scan applications.

In addition to the ten Expert-tuning parameters, MTVpowr uniquely provides the user an incredibly-versatile ability to define custom "Master" patterns in a text file, which can specify values for any of 14 pattern-related inputs - it even allows modification of internal "calibration" factors! This feature is designed especially to assist with StratWiz runs, so that thousands of unnecessary loop-iterations can be avoided, and also to help "lock down" settings desired for a particular Strategy or timeframe, etc.

Any MTV indicator (Edge, Flex, Powr) may be utilized as the core-engine for optional "shell" routines, such as MTVscn (Scan to find optimal Symbol-Lists to use with an MTV-enhanced Strategy), MTVsys (System that fires Entries based on MTV evaluations), and MTVstp (Stop that fires Exit signals using MTV info). If any of these are purchased, the Indicator's License is also upgraded, to provide four extra Plot and Return options that evaluate State-Zone price-movement Efficiency (a derivative of Profit-Band info), and the Growth-rate related to that movement-Efficiency. These extra outputs are used by the "shell" MTV routines, but also may be used directly for discretionary trading, or "called" by OmniLanguage routines or OmniScript formulae.

Powr has six "Sections" ... the "Supervisor" with two inputs that can fully define an MTV pattern; then "TheGurus" with three inputs that expand the 15 Master patterns to 125 variants to fit a wider variety of applications; then four "StateLnth" parameters to fine-tune the first Guru's rules; then three "Response" parameters to fine-tune the second Guru's rules; then three "VoteCtl" parameters to fine-tune the third Guru's rules; finally, the "OutputCtl" with three parameters that efficiently focus execution to desired bars, and offer *many* Plot and Return options, plus a "PopUp CueCard Menu" that gives access to pattern-modelling detail, function-call formatting, OVest-Script requests, and extensive "lookup" assistance for Alternate Symbol specifications.

SUMMARY: MTVpowr offers ultimately-adaptive implementation of Market-State analysis to either discretionary or mechanical trading on any Nirvana platform, including OmniVest. It includes all the "shortcuts" offered by Edge (the Master input) and by Flex (the 3 Guru inputs), with the option to fine-tune any of those rule-based stepping stones, to further improve filter performance for specific needs. It has the unique capability of providing "hyperdrive" to StratWiz runs where many different parameters are involved. And, since it works just fine with just one nonzero Master input, or just three nonzero Guru inputs, the learning-curve can be taken *gradually*. Powr works on all standalone Nirvana platforms, and OmniScripts can be ordered for OmniVest use that precisely mirror the MTV plugin calc's, even with the Expert tuning. You can use Powr as the "core-engine" for your customized Market-savvy Scans, as well as Entry & Exit signals.

View the MTV Introductory-Video ...

... this video (and others in the thread) is not for the current release levels ...

... then, for a much deeper level of explanation, download the attached full Help-Manual PDF for MTVpowr. That manual doesn't have illustrations ... but you can review the Video, pause it and take as many snapshots as you like (Techsmith's "SnagIt" is recommended for this), to get pictures of what the Manual is talking about.

Licensing, Upgrade & Purchase Options:

Licensed MTVxprt users will automatically receive a revised unique/personalized TradeTight-Keys.txt file via direct email, to allow access to MTVpowr.B1. A single Keys file holds licenses for all TradeTight routines for a given user. The B1 release comes at no charge to existing owners, but offers an option to unlock additional features for $135 - see details below.

If you do not currently own MTVpowr, there are four ways you can obtain a license (the nature of the licensing mechanism *does not allow for returns*, but you can rent it to try it out):
1. Monthly rental: $60 ... includes "upgrade" & "subscription" (50% of rent applies to purchase)
2. Purchase without "subscription" features: $495 ... this is a lifetime license, to the upgraded level
3. Purchase with one-year "subscription" features: $690 ... lifetime license to upgraded routine
4. Purchase with lifetime "subscription" features: $845 ... full implementation without time limits

Note: similar scope at lower prices, but with much more limited functionality, is available via MTVflex. MTVflex offers the same 125 Guru permutations, but without MTVpowr's ten Expert "tuning" inputs, or its PreSet-file support, that give MTVpowr 2.2 million pattern-variations.

Do you need an active Subscription?
** "Subscription" features are *NOT* needed for trades who plan to use MTV primarily for "discretionary" trading, or to *visually* identify MTV-input-patterns to be used in OmniVest, via optional single-pattern MTV OScripts (typical cost ~$45). Those same OScripts can also be used in OT/VT Filter Blocks (and other OScript places) for Scans or for mechanical trading. So, a Subscription is *NOT* necessary, when visual evaluations are the preferred method for using MTV analysis (vs automated Strategy Wizard studies, etc).
** "Subscription" features *ARE* needed for those who want to use MTV in custom Focus Lists, or use it as a "function call" in Strategy Filter Blocks, or any of the many other places in OT/VT where the Formula Builder appears, or as a function call from custom OmniLanguage routines. The subscription "unlocks" access to Return Values, and also dramatically expands the list of Alternate Symbols that can be specified (normally 40, expanded to nearly 500). An active subscription is needed for "shell" tools like MTVscn, MTVsys, or MTVstp (see below) to function.
** "Subscriptions" can be added at any time, for quarterly ($60) or annual ($195) periods ... if they expire, the MTV routine continues to function, but without those features, until the subscription is re-activated. Lifetime subscription is $350 one-time (half of any prior subscriptions is credited toward this).

Streamlined with Easier Use, Easier Understanding!

MTVpowr.B1 is a major release that replaces all prior versions of "MTVxprt" ... it is provided to licensed MTVxprt users at no additional charge, and earlier versions will no longer be supported. An extra-ordinary amount of work has been done to streamline the use of MTV:
** the total number of inputs has been reduced without reducing the scope or power
** rule voting and thresholds inputs and logic have been revamped for clarity and usefulness
** "Fuzz" effects, which have a major impact on "neutral" zones, have been significantly refined
** improved inputs can reduce Calc time by focusing on a particular range of bars
** unnecessary processing of Weekly timeframes eliminated (unless user wants them)
** parameters have more descriptive names, and the default is 0 rather than -1
** output control has been simplified into a single parameter, with logical Plot vs Return patterns
** an entirely-new popup CueCard menu provides easy access to a dozen different popup features
** a comprehensive Help manual can be viewed via popups, or output to a printable text file
** volatility-Range input-option list now offers bar "Top-Bot", halfway between Opn-Cls and Hi-Lo
** Guru-mapping logic to the Expert-tuning inputs has been enhanced and clarified
** a higher-level Master input (which drives Guru combinations) is available via PreSets 1-15
** complicated "integer.decimal" dual-inputs have been replaced by simple integer controls

Optional Upgrade Activates Cool New Features!

The list of improvements above is just the beginning. There are several *major* new features in the "B1" DLL which can be activated for a one-time $135 upgrade fee (via new Keys-license file). This upgrade is also required to utilize additional options described below, or implement future MTV upgrades. The upgrade unlocks:
** new State-Zone "Momentum Extension" option reduces State-change-chatter via expert rules
** plots show Momentum Extension alongside standard MTV; returns offer either/or option
** Trend and Volatility State Return outputs now include current *Duration* of that State-Zone
** brand-new plot & return outputs show the profitability of "tradeable legs" within a State-Zone
** new plot & return outputs also show the MaxProfitableExcursion and WorstDrawDown in the Zone
** new return outputs also include special "binned" sort capability to find good trading candidates

** drilldown-plot options have extra information, improved scaling and other output enhancements
** context-sensitive Help ... set any input to -1 and comprehensive help for that input pops up!
** user may optionally customize the Help file contents that appear (ie add "notes" to themselves)
** textfile-output of complete list of supported Alternate-Symbols (with names and input ref-ID#'s)

Upcoming Tools Leverage MTV's Smarts!:

The upgraded MTV.B1 version also opens up access to special tools, being added gradually over the next few months. Some are "shell routines" that "call upon" MTV's calc's for different applications; others utilize addtional data to give MTV access to Correlation, anti-correlation, and lead/lag studies. The future includes:
** MTVscn routine dynamically Scans for symbols that *work best* w/particular MTV "patterns"
** MTVsys routine unlocks extra MTV outputs, using them to find good Entry Signals within the Zones
** MTVstp routine uses extra-unlocked MTV outputs to identify good Exit points within the State-Zones
** SymCorr extension to the SymXref database, adding unique Correlation mapping to ETF's & Industries

Also, a family of ** MTVopt ** Strategy-specific "shell" routines will be provided to enhance existing OT/VT Strategies and OmniVest Systems. MTVopt will provide easy to use, focused-access to the sifted-results of thirty-thousand equity-curve test runs, where 280 different combinations of MTV-filter patterns were evaluated in OmniTrader against several dozen strategy-variants across two *entirely different* sample 3-year timeframes, using a *different* set of ~95 symbols with each timeframe.
From these test runs, careful evaluations identified the MTV-filter patterns that produced the most advantageous impacts on the PortSim statistics, compared to the Base-Strat performance. Initial testing was done on the some of the best of Nirvana's plug-in strategies, which have also been implemented in OmniVest as standard Systems.
Users can pair-up their Nirvana Plugin Strategies and Nirvana OmniVest Systems with these "optimized" MTV filters, which had demonstrable benefits for those Strats/Systems in rigorous historical-simulation tests.

+ = + = + = + = + = Important General Installation Notes & Nomenclature = + = + = + = + = +

1. Installation Instructions are provided in the post for a given upgrade verison ... please USE them
2. All files go in the Nirvana\OTxx\SDK\ (or \VTxx\SDK\) folder - "xx" is the year, like "OT16"
3. Only one "TT-MTVpowr" DLL file (ie leftmost part of the name) should be present
4. MTVpowr will not operate unless it has a valid License-entry in the "TradeTight-Keys.txt" file
5. MTVpowr requires TT-SymsMap...dll and TT-HelpNfo...dll to be in the SDK folder
6. Three SDK-Sub-Folders (for Support, Output & Help-Manuals) are created during installation.
7. TT_Support-Files Folder must hold Text files: Main & Npts Help, Preset, SymXref, and Keys
8. TT_Output-Files Folder is where MTV-gen'd files Text are automatically sent (Help, Xref, etc)
9. TT_Help-Manuals Folder is distributed with PDF's created via MS Word using Help Txt files
10. Install Zip file has complete folders and files: UNblock, then put them all in SDK folder

Nomenclature & Req'd OT/VT Versions:
The file named "TT-MTVpowr.V#.P##xxxx.nsl.dll" is the container of the MTVpowr engine ... "V" is the version and "#" is the build ... V# changes when functionality-improvements are made. MTVpowr's V# does not need to "match" the SymsMap+SymXref V#'s, or the Help-MTV versions, which may change more frequently. "P" is either O for OmniTrader or V for VisualTrader (different DLL's req'd), the ## that follows is the year (ie OT16) or major-release number (VT11) which the DLL is compiled to work with, and the xxxx is the earliest OT/VT "release" (ie rls2) or "prerelease" (ie pr2C) level that this MTV's DLL will function on ... you must upgrade OT/VT to at least this level in order to use that MTV DLL version. When OT/VT is release at a new P## level (typically once a year), a new MTV DLL will be provided for download, so you can run on the new OT/VT platform.

Snapshot of what must be in the SDK folder for MTVpowr to work in OT (the ".A#.O##xxxx": changes over time), and it's a similar structure for VT, but uses ".A#V##xxxx" DLL's):

+ = + = + = + = + = + = MTVpowr, Version B, Build 1 (24may16) release= + = + = + = + = + = +

Updated License is Required!
All existing-licensed MTVxprt users (MTVpowr is the replacement for MTVxprt) are being sent an email with an updated personal TradeTight-Keys.txt file required to activate this release. This emailed file must be copied into the TT_Support-Files folder, after the Zip file has been properly installed. The old TradeTight-Keys file has no further use ... it can be deleted.

Details about this Release:
This completely replaces MTVxprt, which is no longer supported. It runs on OT16rls2, VT11rls2 (or later releases in that those OT/VT "year" versions) ... also available for OT15pr2O (though an upgrade to OT16 is recommended).
Extremely extensive improvements were made, listed in the prior post. Some of the improvements require an Upgraded license-Key to be accessed (see prior post) ... that upgrade is required for additional, upcoming MTV tools to work, but even without it, MTVpowr.B1 is much-improved over the prior MTVxprt routine.
Build-date for this release's MTVpowr.B1 indicator-DLL is (24may16). Build dates for this release's SymsMap.B1 and HelpNfo.B1 utility-DLL's are (30apr16).

Important Extra Procedure for this Release Only

If you previously had MTVxprt installed on your machine, then the normal installation steps below will completely eliminate the DLL "engines" related to that. But, those steps will not eliminate the places where you *applied* MTVxprt to OT/VT ... that is, where it has a "residual footprint". All of those places must be manually removed or repaired. Here is a list of possibilities ... only you know where your uses of MTVxprt took you ...

a. It probably is part of one or more Chart Templates. Probably, those templates' prior MTV indicators will simply disappear, and there's nothing you will need to do ... other than adding a comparable MTVpowr indicator in its place, after the installation below is complete. Charts are friendly in OT about this kind of thing.

... If you had an active Subscription, then ...

b. You may well have used MTVxprt in a Custom Focus List. These CFL's are amongst the *least* friendly of OT's tools (several reasons) when things change behind the scenes. So, if you have *any* instances of MTVxprt used in CFL columns on *any* profiles, (Std tab or EZ tab mode), you will need to *delete those columns* ... preferably before the installation procedure below ... but it could be done afterwards also with no harm.

c. You may well have used MTVxprt in a Strategy Filter Block. You need to either delete those formulae completely from the FB (no need to delete the Strat), or temporarily uncheck the box next to the filter's name in the top left of the FB, so that any filter with MTVxprt in it is inactive. Then, after installation, one at a time, replace the FB formulae with MTVpowr function-calls instead. Special note: the parameter list is NOT the same for MTVpowr as it was for MTVxprt ... use the CueCard Menu item #5 to obtain a sample of the new format.

d. You may have used MTVxprt in other places such as OmniScan, EZ Setups, Color Charts, TradePlan rules, etc ... anyplace that an OScript formula can be used in OT/VT, MTV can be called upon ... before the new installation, find those places, and delete the MTV call. After installation, rebuild those rules using MTVpowr with the corrected parameter list. It's especially important to do this ahead of time for Color Charts, since they are tied with CFL's as being the *least friendly* in OT when it comes to changes like this occurring.

Summary: this procedure is only needed one time, and only because the name of the indicator has changed and the old name is no longer supported. All future releases will go smoothly without requiring these kinds of repairs. Thank you for your cooperation and your understanding.

==========================

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS - important! - don't skip any steps:

1. Turn OT/VT off, and if necessary, update your installation of OT2015 to the final pre-release 2O / OT2016 to at least release 2 / VT11 to at least release 2, and after testing to assure the upgrades installed correctly, continue with OT/VT shut down. (If you have not run Windows Update in a long while, it might be wise to do that also, before continuing.)

2. Delete ALL files that are currently in your OT20xx\SDK or VT11\SDK folder that were previously supplied in relation to MTV. Unless you had other custom-programmed DLL's in the SDK (unlikely), that folder should be EMPTY before proceeding.

3. Download the OTxx &/or VT Installation Zip file(s) attached to the bottom of this post, by clicking on it and saving it to your desktop. Be certain to select the *correct* zip file that matches the OT15, OT16, or VT11 install you are doing.

4. Right-click on the downloaded Zip file (NOT on its contents), click Properties (last item), click on the UnBlock button on the bottom right, and click OK ... this should UnBlock all files in the Zip. If you don't see the UnBlock button and if you are running Windows 7 or later, try again to double-check ... remember, you should right-click on the Zip container-file before doing extractions, not on its component files. If you don't see the UnBlock button, don't worry ... for mysterious Windows-y reasons, sometimes it doesn't appear.

5. Copy the three folders and all the files out of the UnBlocked Zip folder into your OT20xx\SDK or VT11\SDK folder. After doing so, right click on each of the DLL files in their new location, to double-check that they are in fact UnBlocked.

6. Now, copy the personalized TradeTight-Keys.txt file that was direct-emailed to you into the TT_Support-Files folder that you just added to the SDK folder. The same Keys file is used for OT and VT.

7. If you have not done so previously, install the BasicBlack Chart Template ... Instructions (follow them!) and Zip file containing it are found here: http://tradetight.org/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1173#M6623

8. Start OmniTrader / VisualTrader ... it should start normally ... then open the BasicBlack template, rename it per the instructions in the #7 link (maybe to "MTVpowr"), then right-click on the chart, select "Add Indicator" > click "K-M" and select MTVpowr from the bottom of that popup list ... this will put the indicator on custom-named chart for you to access regularly. Note that you can put *multiple instances* of MTVpowr on the same chart at the same time, to show different plot-output formats, or the same output with different patterns.

If you don't see the UnBlock button, don't worry ... for mysterious Windows-y reasons, sometimes it doesn't appear.

5. Copy the four folders and all the files out of the UnBlocked Zip folder into your OT2018\SDK. After doing so, right click on each of the DLL files in their new location, to double-check that they are in fact UnBlocked.

6. Now, copy (don't "move") the personalized TradeTight-Keys.txt file FROM your OT2017\SDK\TT_Support-Files folder into the TT_Support-Files folder that you just added to the OT2018\SDK folder. A new Keys file is not needed for this update. If this is your first installation of MTV on a Nirvana platform, you will receive the Keys file by email.

7. If you have not done so previously, install the BasicBlack Chart Template ... Instructions (follow them!) and Zip file containing it are found here: http://tradetight.org/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1173#M6623. After that, if you wish, use a similar procedure to copy the aTTctMTVxxxx.OTD chart template from the TT_Templates folder that you just copied into the SDK ... it goes in the OT2018\ChartTemplates folder. Similarly, you may want to copy the aTTprED-MTV profile form the TT_Templates folder into the OT2018\Profiles folder. Note: unless you own and have installed all three versions of MTV, only one of the three custom columns in the FL will work ... you should delete the other two, and then Edit the settings of the one that goes with your MTV version, to specify "-1" as the output type (last parameter).

8. Start OmniTrader ... it should start normally ... then, if you did NOT copy the aTTctMTVxxx template in step 7 ... open the BasicBlack template, rename it per the instructions in the #7 link, then right-click on the chart, select "Add Indicator" > click "K-M" and select MTVxxxx from the bottom of that popup list ... this will put the indicator on custom-named chart for you to access regularly. Note that you can put *multiple instances* of MTVxxxx on the same chart at the same time, to show different plot-output formats, or the same output with different patterns.

Experience has proven that if you experience problems, it is *highly* likely that the problems stem from missing a step (or adding some steps) or changing the order of the install procedure, so please start over from scratch and try again, if it doesn't work the first time, *before* reporting the problem as outlined below. Then wait ... I will get back to you quickly. If you do other things it may simply confuse the issue further.

If you encounter any problems that show error messages, snapshot them (TechSmith's SnagIt is a great tool for this), and save as "PNG" files, then email *with* a snapshot of your SDK "root" folder and the TT_Support-Files folder, plus a snapshot of the version/expiration panel (final-input=0 > CueCard Menu #1), and a snapshot of the right-click > Properties pane for each of the DLL's in the SDK folder to JimDean at TradeTight dot org.
