TWO versions of "basic" Strategies are available for use with MTV ...
* One is based on OScripts, and the other is based on the MTV Indicator itself. The OScript version works for anyone who has Bull Trend and Bear Trend MTV OScripts, even if they don't have a license to use MTV in OT (other MTV Script combos can easily be substituted of course).
* The Indicator version should be used by people who have MTV licensed and installed, and an active Subscription, since that version (next post) permits the full range of MTV settings to be exercised, separately for Long/Short Entry and Long/Short Filters, without having to purchase separate Scripts.

Information in this thread originally was provided for earlier MTV releases. With the B1 upgrade, the MTV names were changed from MTVxprt to MTVpowr, and from MTVcore to MTVflex (and MTVedge first appeared on the scene). The parameter-lists for Powr and Flex *differ* from Xprt and Core, so in the examples provided, please use the final-input-0, CueCard Menu #5 to obtain correct function-call formats for Powr & Flex. The information about using MTV OScripts remains correct, as-is.

========================

*** The MTV Script Version ***

The five snapshots (#0,1,2,3,4) below illustrate how a Strategy can be constructed based on MTV OScripts. There will be video training offered soon, discussing some of the *many* permutations that are possible ... it's impractical to explain it all in writing.

The Strategy uses the Default-Settings MTV Bull and Bear Trend OScripts which are distributed either with the MTVcore/xprt packages, or sold separately. Since it is impossible to provide the Strategy separately without the for-a-fee MTV Scripts, I'm showing all relevant snapshots below so you can reconstruct it. OR ... just download the Strat from the MTV Indicator Version (next post), and replace the filter block Indicator-based scripts with your MTV Scripts.

Both Bull and Bear Trend OScripts are used in the Filter Block, which is redirected to use the $SPX symbol so that the FB only "passes" Long/Short Signals from a given Symbol, when the directionality of the SPX is in agreement with the Signal direction.

The Strategy uses those *same* OScripts separately to create the Entry Signals ... these are the two "stacked" lines each with System, Vote, Filter blocks, both feeding into a common Vote Block. The "trick" is to assign All Bars Long as the System for the top line, paired with the Bull filter; and All Bars Short as the System for the bottom line, paired with the Bear filter.

Finally, the Strategy uses a fairly tight generic Trade Plan for exits ... a Fixed Loss Stop along with a Trailing Profit Stop. The #0 snapshot shows the entire strategy in action, with two instances of the MTV indicator plotted to show the Signals from the current symbol, and the Filter Block state from $SPX.

This Strategy is a very useful TEMPLATE for any/all other OScripts that you might want to employ, to create entry signals &/or filtering rules, based on MTV OScripts or other rules. You can of course modify it as you please.

*** The MTV Indicator Version ***
... please read the earlier post regarding Scripts vs Indicator versions, and other info ...

This version of the Strategy comes in two flavors ... one for MTVcore and the other for MTVxprt. I'll discuss the MTVcore version in this post, and explain the (minor) differences of the MTVxprt version in the next post. Both of these require that you have a licensed copy of MTV on your machine and that it currently has an active Subscription. If you don't, then use the MTV OScript approach (prior post).

This post *does* include a download-able Strategy (.ots file), unlike the prior OScript post. If you are an OScript version user, feel free to download this .ots strategy, which will *not* work for you unless you've got MTVcore with an active Subscription ... but you can use it as a template and replace the MTVcore indicator calls in the three filter blocks with MTV OScripts available separately.

*** The MTVcore Indicator Version ***

The TradePlan used is the same as for the MTV OScripts version ... it's a handy default starting point, with fairly "tight" settings (which are appropriate IF you have good entry and filter logic, imho). The overall structure of the strategy is the same.

The first three snapshots show information comparable to what was illustrated and described in the prior MTV OScripts Version post, so please read about them there. A few differences worth mentioning:

1. For grins, I used option 6 instead of option 1 on the plot input (third to last), so that all you see in the Chart Indicator pane is the Trend histogram (top for $SPX, bottom for current Symbol).

2. The voteline detail references filter blocks with slightly different names (renamed since they use MTV Indicator "function calls" instead of MTV OScripts).

3. The actual filter formulae use calls instead of Scripts ... note that you can modify any of the inputs freely (not the last three), to model a huge variety of alternative MTV patterns. It is not necessary to use the same settings for Long & Short entry and Bull & Bear filters ... I just did so to illustrate that the results are the same as for using the OScripts.

Note that even though the MTVcore() function-call is pretty easy to type out (not too many param's to get lost in), you can get a "template" that matches the current MTVcore Indicator settings by using the method described and illustrated in the final snapshot of the next (MTVxprt) post.

*** The MTVxprt Indicator Version ***
... please read the earlier two posts regarding Scripts & MTVcore Indicator versions ...

This post includes a different download-able Strategy (.ots file) than the prior MTVcore post did, so be sure to use the one that matches the MTV package that you have installed. This post also includes a download-able ChartTemplate (.otd file) which is set up for MTVxprt users. It's easy to modify to MTVcore, or you can click here to get the BasicBlack chart template, and add two instances of MTV yourself.

The TradePlan used is the same as for the MTV OScripts and MTVcore Indicators version ... it's a handy default starting point, with fairly "tight" settings (which are appropriate IF you have good entry and filter logic, imho). And, the overall structure of the Strategy is the same.

The three snapshots show information comparable to what was illustrated and described in the prior MTV OScripts and MTVcore Versions posts, so please read about them there (including "differences" described in the MTVcore post).

See the next post for a nifty "trick" for creating the formulae used in the filter blocks.

*** Automated Indicator Function-Call Template ***

Information in this thread originally was provided for earlier MTV releases. With the B1 upgrade, the MTV names were changed from MTVxprt to MTVpowr, and from MTVcore to MTVflex (and MTVedge first appeared on the scene). The parameter-lists for Powr and Flex *differ* from Xprt and Core, so in the examples provided, please use the final-input-0, CueCard Menu #5 to obtain correct function-call formats for Powr & Flex. The information about using MTV OScripts remains correct, as-is.

The snapshot below illustrates a really handy MTV feature (both in Core and Xprt versions, but most useful for Xprt) ... MTV can automatically create a properly-formatted Indicator "function-call" for you, matching your current Indicator settings, for use anywhere that OT's Formula Builder box allows for a "script" to be defined. How you can use it in Strategies is illustrated in the 2nd & 3rd snapshots of the prior two posts ... how you obtain it (for either MTVcore or MTVxprt) is shown below.

1. Add the MTV indicator to a chart, and modify its parameters to fit whatever model or pattern of Trend &/or Volatility analysis best fits your current ideas & focus. Note re MTVxprt ... these settings *can* include use of the Preset file.

2. Double-click on it to open the Parameters Pane, then set the LAST input to "-1" ... to activate it, just click on any other input field (no need to close the Params Pane). The Details Popup will appear as shown ... check its info to make sure the model is what you want.

3. At the bottom of the Details Popup, you'll see some instructions ... these vary somewhat depending on your licensing ... click on the appropriate button to see the "Function Call" Template (note - native OT limitations don't permit the buttons to have custom labels).

4. Follow the copy/paste instructions provided on the popup that appears, then click OK to close the popup, and click "Cancel" to close the Parameters pane (the -1 input will go away).

IMPORTANT: the second and third-to-last inputs must be MODIFIED after you paste the template into the Formula-Builder input area. The third-to-last input should be set to ZERO (this controls the plot output). The second-to-last input must be NON-ZERO (this controls the return-value output). The options for the Return-Value are:
... 1= returns Trend.Volat (as 1-7.1-7), typ used for Custom Focus List since it's a two-in-one value
... 2= returns Trend (as -2 to +2), typ used for Filter Blocks and Scans, etc (pos=Bull, neg=bear)
... 3= returns Volatility (as -2 to +2), typ used for Filter Blocks and Scans, etc (pos=Wild, neg=Calm)
... 4= returns Volat.Trend (as 1-7.1-7), same as 1, but backwards (for sorting FL on Volatility)

The example MTV Strategies provided in this thread use a Return value of 2, since they focus only on the Trend component. It's perfectly reasonable, however, that any of those formulae might be expanded to call the MTV indicator a second time, using Return value of 3, if you want to include a test for Volatility for your Entries &/or Filters.
